Saudi Arabia -Man caught taking bribe red-handed By ARAB NEWS Published: Feb 11, 2012 02:24 Updated: Feb 11, 2012 02:24 RIYADH: The National Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested an employee of a specialized medical company for taking bribe from a building contractor in Hail. The commission started investigations after the Ministry of Health reported the employee for demanding SR1.5 million from the contractor in exchange for overlooking violations of building regulations in one of the hospitals in the Hail province, according to a statement of the commission quoted by the Saudi Press Agency Friday. The commission made necessary investigations in the matter in collaboration with administrative investigators and arranged a sting operation. The corrupt official of the specialized company, an Arab expatriate, was caught red-handed while receiving two checks: one for SR1.3 million and the other for SR30,000 from the owner of the building. The case has been handed to the Control and Investigation Board. The commission, set up by a royal order last March, monitors and oversees all government departments, with the sole mission of locating and combating administrative and financial corruption. Chairman of the commission Muhammad Al-Shareef requested all government departments to cooperate with the commission in the fight against corruption. According to Article 5 of the commission’s bylaw, departments should reply to the organization’s questions within 30 days. He said Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah told the commission to inform him about the departments and agencies that do not cooperate with the commission. Al-Shareef urged people to report to the commission any corrupt practices they notice in any government department. He said the complaint should be genuine and accompany the identity of the person who makes the allegation. “The National Anti-Corruption Commission will accept only written complaints which should be mailed to 7667 Al-Olaya, Al-Ghadir district, Riyadh 2525-13311, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, or faxed to 01/265555 or in the form of a phonogram,” he said in an earlier statement. Another condition is that the complainant should not publish his complaint in the media or in any other manner, as a documented complaint received by the commission is considered highly confidential, he said.
