BURUNDI- TEA EXPORT BOOM IN JANUARY

(AGI) Bujumbura - January saw a boom in tea exports in Burundi, with figures more than double those for the same period in 2010. Compared to January last year, exports rose from 326 to 593 tons, while revenue grew 109%, going from 908,552 to 1.9 million dollars. The Director General for the country's tea body, Remy Ndayininhaze, stated that rising demand in Burundi "stems from its excellent quality". Prices on the international market also increased; in January the average cost of tea exported from Burundi was of 3.20 dollars per kilogram against 2.78 last year. .
