Tanzanian President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete has named his choice for premier - and legislators are in favour of the candidate.
Dodoma - Tanzanian legislators on Tuesday approved President Jakaya Kikwete's nomination of Mizengo Pinda as the country's next prime minister.
Pinda, 62, was re-appointed to the position in which he has served since February 2008 following the resignation of Edward Lowassa over a graft scandal.
Pinda pledged to eradicate poverty in this vast East African state which is among the world's least developed nations.
“We will have sustainable development by lifting millions of farmers in Tanzania out of poverty,” Pinda said in his acceptance speech.
He will be sworn in on Thursday and Kikwete will announce his cabinet later.
Kikwete was re-elected for a second term after winning 61 percent in the country's October 31 general elections marked by low turnout and opposition complaints of fraud. - Sapa-AFP
